What’s in my bag?
October 29, 2010
One of my favorite things to know (being a photography nerd) is what other people are shooting with. What film, what cameras, what lenses…what bags they’re using, etc. I just love the behind the scenes…how did you make those image?
So I decided to do a ‘what’s in my bag’ post today (my last one of these was almost 3 years ago!)
I shoot several different cameras: Mamiya 645afd (and 645af backup body), mamiya c220, canon 1N, pentax k1000, canon 5D mk II, voigtlander bessa r2, Crown Graphic 4×5 (replacing the toyo view i’ve shot for the past 3 years), olympus pen-ee2, and holga.
I use the mamiya 645afd as my main portrait camera and the pentax k1000 or bessa r2 (very new to me, not pictured because it’s getting a CLA), for my more journalism type shooting and the 5D for my digital and also video (which I use a lot for my overseas and non-profit work).
for the mamiya I have the 80mmf2.8 and for the pentax I have a 28mmf2.8, 50mmf2, and 135mmf2.8, for the canon I have the 24-70mmf2.8L, 35mmf2, and 50mmf1.4, and for the bessa I have the 35mmf1.4 nokton
I carry a pair of canon flashes, a 580exII and 430ex. I use a minolta light meter and I carry a polaroid back for my 645 as well.
other than that, a lot of random stuff, tons of flash cards, extra insert for the 645, and lots of batteries, chargers etc.

for my film: I shoot fuji pro400h for my color (35mm and 120) and sometimes the fuji 800z, but now i mostly push 400 to 800/1600 if i need higher iso. For b&w I shoot kodak tri-x (which I almost always push to 1600…just love that film) and sometimes I shoot ilford 3200.
I use a Lowepro vertex 200 as my main (big) bag for travel and I carry a Domke f7 as a walk around bag (amazing). Unless i’m on a small regional jet I can actually carry both bags on and have never had a problem. Hit me up if you have any questions!

I’m amazed what you get in two bags. Wow!

Okay, Stephen – stop showing off. Haha. Just kidding. Um, can I borrow some gear? Again, joking – but, wow, an inspirational setup indeed.

i just showed my wife this post and she says, “his bags are like those infomercial space bags, where they suck out all the air.” not sure what she means, but she is funny. I think she means you can fit a lot of gear in your bags. shes funny.

I was wondering where you get your b&w as well as color pictures developed? I live in birmingham and have quite a few b&w films that needs to get developed. I’ve been interested in trying the color films for my camera. Where do you get yours?
