It’s 9:43am and I’m sitting alone in a hotel room in Destin, FL. I left Birmingham at 9:15pm last night and started my 4 1/2 hour drive with good pace and confidence in my navigation skills. That good pace and confidence left fairly quickly. I knew right away that I’d made a wrong turn in Andulusia. But I still saw a sign that pointed the direction that I was going and said Destin. This can’t be that wrong right…there’s more than one way to get to Destin. So I kept going. But before too long I didn’t see anymore signs for Destin. Then my phone died. That was my fault really; I had talked to Wes, LAJ, and of course, Jessi each for a long time. I was on the phone with Jessi, lost and slightly concerned about it when the phone died. So I kept driving, semi-confident that if the road said south (which it did) that I would end up at the beach sooner or later. I was on some country back road with no lights, no cars and lots of deer. That’s when I noticed that I was low on gas. Whew…it keeps getting better right? Well, even more concerned, and hearing a terrible grinding noise from my broken bumper all along I couldn’t imagine what would happen next. As I was driving I was praying, not much about the situation, but more just about life, and photography and my travels and Jessi…the stuff that God wants to hear us praise him for I think. It was great, like the father that he is as I was getting more and more worried, he calmed me down. I turned a corner, and after a good solid 30 minutes of nothing there was a church all lit up, and on the billboard out front in huge letters it said “Do not worry, trust in God.” About 5 minutes later I came to a huge intersection with a large gas station, where I spoke with a police officer and got directions. I wasn’t too far off coarse he said. I continued on and made it to Destin about 30 minutes later, and even managed to skip the toll road somehow. Anyways, I got in at about 2ish, and passed out, only to be woken up by loud cell phones ringing my favorite theme song…”the office” and here I am. I have a wedding to shoot tonight here, and then another fun drive back to where I came from…it’s going to be a long day.
