It’s been a crazy week since I got back from San Diego…so crazy in fact, that I haven’t even had the time to sit down and put up a post on the trip. So here goes nothing…

I know that I posted before a few time about San Diego, but I never got to put the whole thing up. The trip, the skating, the surfing…what a trip. We left Dothan, AL at about 1:30 am and headed south towards I-10, the road that we would be on for the better part of the next 33 hours. Mark drove for the first 6, and traded off to me in Louisiana for the next 17. Yup…I drove for 17 until I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore, and then we traded. Somewhere in New Mexico. Here’s the description of those 17 hours:

Desert.

It was beautiful. We saw every type of desert, from plateaus and brush, to dry rock mountains, to sand dunes that reminded me of Egypt and more. The best part for me was seeing the giant Cacti in person. I’ve always seen them on cartoons, but never in real life. Unfortunately we hit them at about 3am, so most of them were just awesome silhouettes in the desert.

And on we went. I woke up at about 5 or 6 and we were just crossing the boarder into California.

That’s about where I picked up driving again. We made it into San Diego at about 10am and crashed out for a little while. A very little while. I’m getting old, apparently, because I was dead and everyone else was ready to get out and do something. It only being 8am there, Drew took us out for breakfast by the beach and gave us a tour of the city (Carlsbad). It is officially among my top 5 favorite places that I’ve ever been now.

The next morning they woke me up bright and early (being 10am) to hit the beach and do some surfing. Now, I’m not sure how many of you know me…but I pride myself in having good balance and being good at skateboarding. Surfing, not so much. Not to mention the water was FREAKING COLD. But we went at it, Drew tried to push me into some waves, and I even stood up a few times and road for a few seconds. I’ll get it next time.

We spent the rest of the day at the Black Box private skate park tearing it up.

rad…or knar, as they would say out there.

Later that night Drew grilled some amazing food for us, and I managed to walk through his screen door. All of the way through. I took that sucker out. Sorry Drew!

The next day, and my last day there, we got the full tour of the amazing Black Box facilities. What a rad company. They hooked us up with new shoes, boards and wheels…and again, we went skating. Where, after hours of trying, I landed a kickflip up the euro to win an iPod for Jessi. Thanks Mark!

That night Chad, the CEO of Black Box, cooked us an amazing dinner and we all hung out and had a good time.

Whew.

So there you have it, an action packed trip to San Diego. I’ll have film back when I return from Portland the week after next, and of course, will post it!

Thanks and props to Drew, Mark and Chad for the awesome food and times in San Diego!
