This hat (belonging to Cheyne) has become a staple of photo shoots up here lately. I’m digging it.

I only met Sarah a couple of weeks ago at a Super Bowl party here in New York. Much like me, Sarah just moved to New York, and is still getting adjusted to life in the big city (coming from Florida…big change!). Also, much like me, Sarah LOVES New York so far. Since meeting Sarah and her family, we’ve been over to their home on Roosevelt Island a few times for dinner and hanging out, and during our time together I found out that Sarah’s been a ballet dancer for most of her life. Like I mentioned before, I’ve been excited about the idea of shooting a dancer for sometime, so I almost instantly asked her if I could photograph her. Sarah’s father works with a church planting/training organization (correct me if I got that wrong Sarah!) and was asked to come live in New York, so Sarah came along for the ride. It’s great meeting new people, and even greater to get to photograph them being themselves.
On a quick semi-side note: Photographing a dancer was so much fun…any dancers out there in NYC or Alabama (I’ll be down south for the summer) who want to be photographed?

More of Taylor from our shoot a few weekends ago. I’m going to have to break my pattern this week and post my Portrait of the Week tomorrow because I don’t pick the film up until 4 this afternoon. Please forgive me…if all goes as planned it’ll totally be worth the wait!

Sarah is a friend who I met up here in New York at a Super Bowl party. Here and her mom and dad just moved up here (a few weeks before I did) and are living out on Roosevelt Island (the little island in the east river) together. We’ve had a great time getting to know them and going over to their place for dinner over the past few weeks and I was so pumped when I found out that Sarah was a Ballerina. My long time love affair with the classic work of Richard Avedon and Irving Penn has left me wanting to photograph dancers many times, and when the opportunity arose I was so pumped. I’ll have the film scans and contact sheet for this weeks’ portrait of the week soon, but until then, here are a few polaroids from the shoot.

So, this post didn’t go up early like usual because I’m in bed sick. Really sick. It’s bound to happen from time to time I suppose. Anyways, here are a couple of shots of Cheyne from last weekend that I really liked. I had some technical (user-dumbness) related issues with the film but it still managed to turn out alright. More to come…I’ve been scanning a lot of shots from the there rolls we shot that day. Here’s to feeling better tomorrow…cheers.

I’ve re-named Taylor Gonzalez to ‘Taylor Gonzofolous’ in case you were wondering. This is a 4×5 shot from the same day that I shot Cheyne at High Line park. It was dang cold.
