Montauk: Expired Film
February 4, 2010
I just got some film back from Montauk and couldn’t believe my eyes. Not because the photos are amazing (although I do like them!) but because the roll of film had been expired for 14 years and sitting in a shed in Alabama for at least that long through summer/winter/summer/winter etc. During an engagement shoot recently the couple showed me an old shed that had belonged to a photographer long ago. While poking around we found an old 70′s style fridge full of 120, 220 and 4×5 film. I took all of it that I could and this is the first roll that I tested…old Kodak color that they don’t even make anymore! I’m so pumped that it turned out…you can definitely see a difference in the colors and tons and sharpness of my usual film, but I love the character that it has! I did shoot 2 or 3 rolls of “good” film in Montauk, and sent that to California, so it should be back next week. Until then…here’s some crazy expired shots from our weekend getaway!

Really amazing. It is one more reason film is so cool.

any chance when you get the “good” film back you could do a little comparison of the two, for the untrained eye like mine.
