Haven’t posted any travel stuff in a while and I absolutely love this image.  I shot this on my last day in Mexico back in March.  We were at a church service and the team had given all of the kids ‘goodies’ earlier.  This girl had a bottle of bubbles and was blowing them near the door while the service was going on.  I watched her for quite a while until she started walking forward as she blew the bubbles.  Then the shot just lined up perfectly as she was watching the bubbles hit the ground.

This is a great example of a time that digital makes a lot of sense.  I know that I talk about film a lot, and I do love film, but there are times that I not only love digital, but think that it’s much more appropriate.  When I’m on these trips I’m usually carrying 2 cameras at all times; a film camera – probably the k1000 or the 1n, and a digital – my 5D mk II.  When you’re shooting jouralism projects and you have to post something each night it has to be digital (obviously).  You also don’t want to shoot all of the ‘good shoots’ with film and just shoot the leftovers with your digital.  It’s important to be able to tell the story from the ground, and to tell it well.  The film stuff is extra for building it up later on in this case.

So now you know…I’m most definitely not ‘anti-digital’…I just prefer film personally, but, I recognize the importance of digital and even believe that it’s not only a useful tool ,but a good and absolutely necessary one (depending on the type of work you do that is!).  For me, digital makes a lot of sense…some of the time.  For the rest of the time, don’t worry…I’ll still be happily shooting film :)
