ECD school
February 11, 2009
I got to hang out twice with Richard, the ECD (early childhood development) teacher for Meto while I was in Kenya, and both times were eye opening. This photo is from the first time, with his class that meets outside under a tree for shade. He actually teaches two classes, bouncing back and forth all day long from the tree to the small building seen in the background. His class in the building, which I visited the second time, is about 25 strong, and only has 12 pencils for the students (all 6,7,8 years old) to share. It’s pretty incredible what he’s doing there and how he’s teaching two classes without proper resources and still keeping a smile on his face. We met many incredible people like Richard during our time in Meto.
