Back to civilization!

What a trip. I left Alabama for Atlanta to catch my flight a week an a half ago bound for Africa. Now…7 nights in a tent in the bush, 5 MREs, 2 medical clinics, the drilling of a well, church services, some of the most amazing music I’ve ever heard, a walk to tanzania, 2 slaughtered goats (both of which I ate), more rice, potatoes and goat meat than you’d believe, 23 species of african animals, dust, dust and more dust, 14,000 shillings, 2 flat tires, a community of the most amazing people I’ve ever met, 20 rolls of film and 7 mini DV tapes later I’m laying here in my tent on my last night in Meto and writing about it for the first time. I ended the night with Spears and Alan singing and dancing with the Maasai here in our compound under the most amazing star filled sky. Today the three of us got engudi from some of the Maasai men here in Meto. Engudi is their word for “stick” which is exactly with it is. It’s the stick that Maasai men cary with them to lean on and heard animals with. A discussion with some of the Massai men on how to properly carry and use our engudi ended in 20 minutes of singing and dancing, as is customary with pretty much anything here in Meto. When I’m back in the states I’ll post some songs that I really loved. I’m pretty worn out, so I’ll save all of the details and stories for later posts…but for now here are a few pictures from our trip to Ambesoli park where we stayed at Oltukai lodge and went on several game drives (game drive = safari). Thanks for checking in…I missed you all tons.

And this one is for you Jess…

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
