It’s my last day in Cairo and it’s really hard to believe that at 9:30pm tonight (2:30 pm back home) I fly to Kenya and leave Egypt for good (for now!). The past 2 weeks have flown by and simultaneously felt like months. It’s like my heart is torn between wanting to stay with my team, my new friends here in Egypt and the beautiful culture of Cairo, and the excitement about visiting Kenya again…a place that I left in February already excited to return to.
The next 9 days will be a blur. I’m not sure where I’m going, who I’ll be with or even exactly what I’ll be doing. Somehow I feel oddly at peace with the situation despite my mind telling me this isn’t an ideal set up.
I’m not sure if I’ll have internet access while I’m there, so this might be goodbye for now. I’ll be flying home on the 2nd, returning to bham the evening of the 3rd and, finally, back in the office on the 4th. Whew.
I’m going to leave you with a few shots from yesterday at the garbage city here in Cairo. It was simply amazing. One of the most forgotten places that I’ve ever visited in my life and all of my travels. The shots, which are some of my favorite, I think truly show the amazing kids and the fun that we shared with them that day.
In case I’m gone for a while…I’ll miss you all. Thanks for keeping up with my Chronicles and I’ll see you on the other side!
