I’ve been talking on and off about a “new project” that Paul and I are working on.  Well the time has come to introduce the project to you.

The Idea:  To take musicians and make art about them that represents them in a stripped down and still interesting way.  We want to show them for who they are and show their music in a non-produced but simply performed way.  Shooting the artists with a 4×5 camera on white slows the process down and strips away all of the auxulary typically found in “musician photos” leaving only light and the artist.  Shooting the videos as a live performance in a single take similarly strips the songs down to a performance, leaving out the production typical of a music video.

Our Thoughts:  The underlying tone of the project is artists working together with artists, about artists and hopefully to be shared with artists.  Paul and I fell into the art community here in Birmingham barely 2 years ago and have loved every second of it.  It’s a place where rather than treat each other as competition everyone works together to become better artists.  The focus is making great work, not getting paid and fighting to do so.  This project mirrors the community here in that Paul and I (2 artists) are working together to make art about artists (the musicians) which will ultimately be share in an art show, website and possibly a book to other artists.
