Wilder Adkins

Chris (also known as Wilder) Adkins is one of the best folk musicians I know. His music is thick, layered with his experiences and incredible skill. Wilder lived in India for a while and it shows through in his music. That indian “flavor” to his work mixed with his intricate guitar (and dulcimer) playing and his intense and beautiful voice makes for some of the best folk music I’ve heard in a while.

I met WIlder when I needed someone to play for the Bedouins International Banquala last year and he was recommended. Not only did he come play for us for free, but he rocked it and everyone left asking, “who was that guy?”

Since then we’ve become friends and I’ve photographed him several times. WIlder’s continued to be a part of our ministry at Bedouins by scoring music for many of my multi-media projects for me adding a lot to them each time.

Check out Wilder’s amazing album at HERE, it’ll be a worthwhile listen for you!

Zach’s Picks:

February 5, 2010

After sending Zach his portrait from last week he picked out a few that he wanted to use for his portfolio and I thought that I’d share them with you since you only got to see them small.  I loved all of these shots, but it’s still always interesting for me to see which images I pick vs. the images that the person(s) in the photo picks.

Montauk: Expired Film

February 4, 2010

I just got some film back from Montauk and couldn’t believe my eyes.  Not because the photos are amazing (although I do like them!) but because the roll of film had been expired for 14 years and sitting in a shed in Alabama for at least that long through summer/winter/summer/winter etc.  During an engagement shoot recently the couple showed me an old shed that had belonged to a photographer long ago.  While poking around we found an old 70’s style fridge full of 120, 220 and 4×5 film.  I took all of it that I could and this is the first roll that I tested…old Kodak color that they don’t even make anymore!  I’m so pumped that it turned out…you can definitely see a difference in the colors and tons and sharpness of my usual film, but I love the character that it has!  I did shoot 2 or 3 rolls of “good” film in Montauk, and sent that to California, so it should be back next week.  Until then…here’s some crazy expired shots from our weekend getaway!

Montauk Polaroids

February 3, 2010

This past weekend we all took a day trip up to Montauk Point at the very tip of Long Island (past the Hamptons). IT was AMAZING. I just sent all of the film off to Richard Lab and can’t wait to see it. The beach was COVERED IN SNOW! We also filmed some video that I’m going to attempt to edit and post soon. Happy Wednesday!

Matthew and Kelly: Engagements

February 2, 2010

I had the pleasure of shooting some engagement photos with Matthew and Kelly literally days before I moved to the big city, and it was amazing.  Not only did I get to spend the morning shooting with a really awesome couple, but we got to hang out where Matthew lives in Chelsea way out in the country away from the city.  It was gorgeous and the perfect backdrop for their engagement session!

portrait of the week:

Zach Williams

February 1, 2010

This weeks Portrait of the Week is Zach Williams.

Zach is one of those guys who knows everyone. He seems to be involved in everything, from several different ministries to school and music and sports. He’s just all over the place, and somehow always makes the time to come sit down, eat some McDonald’s and watch a soccer game with me. Zach is studying graphic design at U.A.B. right now, but is also a very talented musician, soccer player (and one of the few who always showed up to play; rain or shine) and is a big traveler (He spent some time in Turkey not too long ago). He’s a great sport, a great artist and just a lot of fun to be around. I’m definitely looking forward to a visit from him sometime this year, and some much needed and much missed soccer time with him while I’m back in Bham this summer.
